EARLY YEARS
In Early Years section, children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage program (EYFS). We offer a safe and caring learning environment, with an individualized learning approach allowing for the development of self-esteem, a sense of self-confidence and positive feelings toward learning.
Instruction concentrates on facilitating learning through active exploration and interaction with materials, peers and adults.
CURRICULUM
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of your child from 3 to 5 years old.
Early year’s education has many benefits in helping shape a child’s confidence and curiosity before attending school. When children are young, every experience and encounter present a learning opportunity. The brain grows most during a child’s first three years of life which means they absorb everything around them from the words they hear, to copying and adopting behavioural characteristics of people around them.
Social Conduct
It is crucial for an early learner to be presented to other learners to ameliorate their social skills, providing them with abilities to maintain stability within friendship groups. Early year’s education enables learners to acquire most vital skills allowing them to listen to others and share their own ideas. Young learners can make friends, learn to share, cooperate and become accountable for their actions, all within a safe and comfortable environment.
Lifelong learning
Lessons for Early learners are planned out to be fun and exciting. A young learner’s curiosity and excitement for discovering new things can urge a child to be an effective learner in the future. Children, who receive high quality early education, are reportedly more confident and curious. The love for education and the birth of the lifelong learning spirit can stem from early years education.
Diversity
Early years education can guide children in helping them understand that everyone is unique and special in their own way with their own beliefs, culture and ethnicity. Valuing differences and diversity are crucial in early development, early years education can act as a guide to make sure children appreciate and accept differences.
Language Proficiency
One of the early years education’s main objectives is to help young learners become better communicators at an early age. Young learners who might not seem proficient speakers can still learn from listening. enhancing a young learner’s vocabulary is a vital constituent in language development and literacy, and early education can boost a child’s word awareness at an early age.
At British Academy of Tunis, we believe in the importance of a child’s early years education, so we offer a type of program that relates directly to early education. We offer subjects that are in line with the principles of effective early years learning and teaching. These subjects include:
CIRCLE TIME
The way we start up a child’s day is extremely crucial. It is the most fun way to start the day making young learners sit in a circle with their peers and teachers singing songs and sharing stories. Circle Time helps young learners admire their day, get focused, and make that all-important transition from home to school. Learners are initiated to singing, dancing, listening and respond to music. They also begin to create moods and experiences in order to express the feelings through increasingly coordinated and well pondered movements.
ENGLISH
English language teaching to young learners develops their language skills through involvement in a variety of fun, child-centered activities. They learn vocabulary and sentence structures as they sing, chant, play games, have conversations, take part in physical activities and put on plays.
MATHEMATICS
Math lessons make use of a variety of materials. Number concepts and operations, patterns, basic shapes, and counting are learned through the interactive approach and hands-on activities. Critical thinking is encouraged and developed by using puzzles and manipulative tools. Learners quickly develop observational and problem-solving skills through guided play. Mathematical activities are made to provide learners with a strong base for their primary school program.
SCIENCE
Early years learners are taught about plants and animals and guided to explore the weather and seasons. They acquire an understanding of science through repeated experiences using concrete, manipulative material. Young learners’ teachers use simple science experiments to introduce them to the process of scientific inquiry. They become capable of remembering more information and using it to make connections between things. Young learners can separate toy animals into groups, or plants that grow on land, in water and thrive on air.
PHONICS
As young learners mostly learn through guided lessons, direct teaching and the exploration of fundamentals with specific focus on the alphabet and letter sounds, phonemic awareness, and rhyming words, a foundation of beginning skills is taught. They learn that letters and sounds go together to form words, and they are initiated to ways of identifying alphabet letters and their sounds. Game-based activities and decodable stories allow them to explore all possible sounds and blends, creating phonological and phonemic awareness.
WRITING
Writing serves many purposes at the early years’ foundation stage. Learning how to hold a pencil and form letters correctly not only serves learners well in the future, but also helps to work on their fine motor skills. This will also help to improve their hand and eye coordination as well as writing legibly. Young learners will know how to write the alphabet, both capital and lowercase letters, and numbers from at least 1 to 20.
ARTS
Young learners need different ways to express personal thoughts and feelings. Through art, they learn how to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas in symbolic ways. They start to mix colours and do painting, paper folding, colouring, and other fun crafts.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
A very important element to young learners’ overall growth and development is their physical development and well-being. We recognize that young learners are still developing their physical stature and attitudes toward good health. Specially designed movement activities are designed to help children practice and improve their skills of coordination, control and manipulation.
STORYTELLING
Teachers read a variety of poems, stories, and non-fiction books aloud to children. Audio-video clips are also used to make storytelling more interactive for children. Regular visits to the school library are also encouraged to install the habit of reading books at an early age.
